CrossFitters Are Crazy!!
Apparently the word on the street is that Crossfitters are crazy and you can get hurt doing Crossfit. The answer is maybe a little and there is risk in any endeavor. Let me explain a couple of things and hopefully I can help you to understand what Crossfit is about, not the stigma that seems to be attatched to it. Crossfitters are not crazy. They are hard working, dedicated and like to live on the edge a little. They are everyday people. Mothers and kids, doctors and dentists, police officers and nurses. They are you and they are people that… more

CrossFit Games 2013?
It’s probably safe to say that if you’re a CrossFitter in Colorado or the surrounding states, unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve been one of those people talking about the 2012 CrossFit Games Southwest Regionals this weekend. And for good reason too. The growing popularity of CrossFit was no doubt evident at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Event Center. With standing room only, and 5 people deep at that for many of the heats, people came from all over to watch some of our region’s, and the country’s, best CrossFit athletes compete for their right to make it to the… more

It’s All About Mobility, People
Just a reminder that we will continue to focus on the importance of mobility here at CrossFit Modig and its ability to reduce the propensity for injury and nagging aches and pains. Hey Mwodies, Today’s episode is a little homage to misplaced precision. The question is, how much range of motion should you have? Well it turns out this is a… more

Eating Clean – How Are You Doing?
It’s been a few months since our 30 day eat clean challenge ended. How are you doing? Have you been able to find the balance that works best for you? We emphasize the paleo lifestyle in CrossFit because it’s a natural fit, but it’s also important to recognize what works best for you. Many CrossFitters stick to a strict paleo regime, but others find the 80/20 balance. This means that 80% of the time you are eating paleo and the other 20% you are not. The goal is to find the balance where you’re able to maintain your weight and continue to… more

FORM CORRECTION – The Pushup
Happy Monday Modig. Hope everyone enjoyed a few days off…and if you had the chance to do Thursday’s WOD (the Filthy Fifty), there’s a good chance you needed it! Without question, one of the most important elements to improvement in CrossFit is the ability to perform the exercises correctly. Doing a workout as prescribed is great, but not if your form suffers as a result. Typically you’ll find that much of the movements you utilize in CrossFit serve as the baseline for others…the deadlift is a perfect example, as is the pushup. The following is a recent post by Kelly… more

Summertime BBQ’s and Paleo – Healthy Tips
The days are getting longer, the weather is getting nicer and the smell of grilled burgers are in the air. Ahhhh….BBQ season…is there any better time of year?! It’s also the time of year that paleo enthusiasts can enjoy their favorite dishes – grilled steak, grilled vegetables and fresh fruit – and not feel like as much of an outsider! But…and you knew there was going to be a but…there will still be temptations. The nostalgia of the grill can also bring about the nostalgia of eating glutunous amounts of brownies, mayo-laden potato salad, hamburger buns or… GASP…Doritos! But you also… more

Hit the Breaks or the Gas – what’s it gonna be?
Read a blog post recently from Black Box Fort Worth about the ‘negative feedback loop’ and it really hit home. To paraphrase, the negative feedback loop occurs when you’re not exercising or eating as well as you’d like, but you can’t seem to pull yourself out of it. Your energy level is down due to lack of exercise and to the fact that you start making poor decisions when it comes to food. We’ve all been there, right? The toughest part is breaking the cycle. There’s no easy solution other than reminding yourself of how good it feels to eat well and… more

You’ve Run What?!?!?
It’s Monday. Everyone needs humor on Mondays. And maybe an f-bomb or two. For this we turn to the Outlaw Way and a blog post from a few weeks ago. For all you reformed runners out there or for those of you still crazy enough to enjoy 26.2 miles of running, this one’s for you. Please take a minute to enjoy or at least laugh at yourself if this rings true to you. ********************************************************************************************************** How many of you guys have run a marathon? If you answered in the affirmative to the above question, go ahead and take your left shoe off,… more

Good Paleo Reminders
Paleo is a growing trend even though, at its core, the fundamentals of the diet have been around for centuries. Sometimes it’s good to remind ourselves that a pretty little bow wrapped around “paleo approved” food doesn’t always means it’s the right decision. The following is a recent article posted on Robb Wolf’s website (www.robbwolf.com) titled “Paleo is Printed on the Label, But…” that addresses the importance of keeping your eye, and stomach, on your overall nutritional goals. Paleo is Printed on the Label but… Posted by Amy Kubal on Mar 2, 2012 in Paleo Diet Basics, Paleo/Low Carb, Weight Loss | 44 comments The Paleo lifestyle… more
